French President Emmanuel Macron shared three key messages upon his arrival in Kyiv on May 10 as part of the “coalition of the willing,” all emphasizing support for Ukraine.

“Upon returning to Kyiv, my first thoughts were with the Ukrainian people. For more than three years, you have resisted with admirable courage for your land, your freedom, for Europe. Because, yes, the security of our continent is at stake here,” Macron wrote on his X account.

Macron stated that in the face of Russian aggression, the response must be collective, which is why he is making this trip alongside leaders from Germany, Poland, and the United Kingdom.

The President of France outlined three key messages, each centered around Ukraine’s future and European unity.

Peace

Macron emphasized the need for a just and lasting peace, starting with a full and unconditional ceasefire. He noted that while the United States and European leaders have proposed this, Russia continues to stall, setting conditions and prolonging its aggressive actions.

“If Moscow persists in its blockade, we will increase the pressure, as Europeans and in close coordination with the United States. We welcome President Trump’s call to take this step. Our unity is our strength. This is also the meaning of this journey: we all want peace!” Macron’s statement read.

Sovereignty

Macron reiterated that any peace agreement must guarantee Ukraine’s security. He pointed out that European leaders have been working closely on this in Paris, London, and now Kyiv.

Future

Finally, the French president reminded the world that Ukraine is fighting not just for its people but also for the European ideal.

“A free, strong, prosperous, and European Ukraine—that is our horizon.

History is watching us,” Macron concluded.

Earlier during the day, it was reported that Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in Kyiv on May 10 for a high-level meeting of the so-called “coalition of the willing.”,

The leaders joined Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska in a ceremony on Kyiv’s Independence Square to honor the memory of those killed in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
