No strikes have been recorded on either Russian or Ukrainian energy infrastructure since a partial ceasefire reportedly took effect on March 25, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi confirmed during a press briefing on March 27.

“I can confirm that since this date, March 25… there have been no attacks on energy objects—neither Russian attacks on our energy objects, nor our attacks on Russian energy objects,” Tykhyi stated.

Moscow previously claimed that its cessation of attacks began on March 18, allegedly following a phone conversation between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. Tykhyi rejected this timeline, calling it “purely invented by the Russian side, as Russian propaganda.”

A broader 30-day ceasefire proposal had been tabled during Ukraine-US negotiations in Jeddah on March 11. That plan included a complete halt to energy infrastructure strikes. While Ukraine and the US supported the measure, Russia declined unless the deal included conditions that would impair Ukraine’s self-defense capabilities, including an end to foreign military support.

“In our view, in the Ukrainian view, there were agreements made in Saudi Arabia between Ukraine and the United States… where we stated that we cease any attacks on energy infrastructure,” Tykhyi added.

This announcement came after on March 27, Ukrainian officials accused Russia of violating a promise not to target energy infrastructure after artillery fire cut power to tens of thousands in Kherson.

“There has been shelling, seemingly not aimed at the energy sector, but the energy sector was affected,” a senior Ukrainian official told AFP. “We qualify this as a clear violation,” the official added.

Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied Russian Defense Ministry allegations that Ukraine had violated a ceasefire by targeting energy infrastructure. In a March 26 statement, the General Staff said that no Ukrainian drone strikes were carried out on energy facilities in Russia’s Kursk and Bryansk regions or in occupied Crimea on March 25–26.
