Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s medical infrastructure has suffered extensive damage. According to a press release by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine published on May 7, Russian forces have damaged more than 2,300 healthcare facilities.

Of these, 2,020 were partially damaged and another 305 were completely destroyed. The hardest-hit regions include Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.

In addition to targeting hospitals, outpatient clinics, and maternity wards, Russian troops have systematically attacked emergency medical vehicles. Since February 2022, 116 ambulances have been damaged, 274 destroyed, and 80 captured.

According to the Ministry, the Ukrainian government and international partners made significant progress, restoring 700 medical facilities and partially rebuilding another 312, including critical hospitals and primary care centers in frontline areas.

One recent example of restoration was the adult consultation and diagnostic center in Irpin, a branch of the Irpin Central City Hospital, which suffered major damage during the 2022 fighting in the Kyiv region. The restoration was made possible through cooperation with the government of Azerbaijan, the SOCAR company, and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine.

On April 10, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that Russian forces killed at least 67 clergy members from various faiths since the start of Moscow’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

In addition to the killings, Russia’s occupation forces have illegally detained over 30 religious figures. More than 640 religious buildings, including 596 Christian churches, have been damaged or destroyed, the ministry added.
