Polish Prime Minister Warns Europe Is Delivering Putin His Dream Scenario

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that a possible breakup of NATO, weaker sanctions on Russia, an energy crisis in Europe, halted aid to Ukraine, and Viktor Orbán blocking a loan for Kyiv amount to the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin’s “dream plan.”
The statement was posted on his X account on April 2.

The Polish prime minister framed the combination as a strategic scenario that would directly weaken Ukraine and Europe’s wider security position.
The five risks he highlighted were:
The threat of NATO’s breakup;
The weakening of sanctions against Russia;
A major energy crisis in Europe;
The cessation of aid to Ukraine;
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is blocking a loan for Kyiv.
Tusk made the remark, grouping together several developments he argued would all benefit the Kremlin at once.

Tusk also sharply criticized Hungary’s leadership a day earlier, noting a reported recording of a conversation between Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as “depressing” and as confirmation of “deeply troubling” ties between Budapest and Moscow.
The leak pointed to Budapest and Bratislava operating as a discreet Kremlin channel inside the EU, with Péter Szijjártó reportedly passing confidential bloc discussions to Sergey Lavrov.
In one recorded call from August 2024, he appeared anxious about his standing in Moscow and later told Lavrov he was “always at your disposal.”
The materials also indicated that Hungary and Slovakia had coordinated efforts to protect Russian interests, including a proposal to remove Alisher Usmanov’s sister from the EU sanctions list.
The report came as both governments were blocking a €90 billion (or about $103 billion) EU loan package for 2026–2027 while linking support to resumed Russian oil flows.
