Russian leader Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will be among 26 foreign heads of state and government attending a military parade in Beijing on September 3, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, as reported by Reuters on August 28.
The parade will mark the anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II. Kim Jong Un’s visit will be his first to China in six years, since 2019.
Reuters notes that no Western leaders are expected to attend, aside from Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Other participants include leaders from Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Nepal, the Maldives, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran, the Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Serbia, Cuba, and Myanmar.
Tens of thousands of Chinese troops will march at Tiananmen Square before President Xi Jinping, foreign dignitaries, and China’s top leadership.
Reuters also notes that this parade will be one of the largest in China in recent years, showcasing the country’s latest weaponry, including fighter jets, missile defense systems, and hypersonic weapons.
Earlier, it was reported that North Korea has conducted live-fire tests of two newly developed surface-to-air missile systems.
