Rail Sabotage Near St. Petersburg Halts Military Supply Train, Ukrainian Intel Says

A railway line in Russia’s Leningrad region was damaged by an explosion early on October 7, leading to the derailment of a train carrying military cargo, according to Ukrainian intelligence sources cited by RBC-Ukraine.
The blast occurred along the Stroganovo–Mshinskaya route, disrupting one of the main rail lines connecting St. Petersburg and Pskov.
Ukrainian intelligence sources told the outlet that the operation was carried out by local partisans and resulted in a temporary paralysis of rail traffic on the route.
Russian Railways (RZD) confirmed that train movement had been halted in the area but described the cause as “technical reasons.” Freight and passenger trains were redirected via alternative routes, resulting in delays of several hours.

Open-source reports indicate that Russian security services were deployed to the site to clear overturned wagons and inspect the damaged track. However, photos and videos from the location have not surfaced, as internet access in the vicinity of the explosion was reportedly cut off.
Sources from Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence told RBC-Ukraine that such operations have a direct impact on Russia’s logistics and military capabilities, as RZD remains a central component of the country’s military transport infrastructure and a significant financial contributor to its defense sector.
Earlier, on October 1, the ATESH resistance movement sabotaged a railway near Cheboksary, setting fire to a relay box and disrupting Russian logistics used to transport Shahed drones from the Elabuga factory to frontline forces.
