Russia Bombards Ukraine with Missiles and Drones—Gas Facilities and Homes Hit in Deadly Attack

In the early hours of March 7, air raid alerts were issued across Kyiv and most Ukrainian regions due to incoming Russian drones and cruise missiles, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed on March 7.

As of 6 am, Ukrainian forces detected three Russian missile carriers in the Black Sea, capable of launching up to eight Kalibr cruise missiles.

Around the same time, a Russian MiG-31K fighter jet was airborne, prompting a nationwide air raid alert.

At approximately 6:30 am, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko reported that Russian forces had targeted Ukraine’s energy and gas infrastructure in multiple regions.

“Where possible, emergency workers and energy crews are already working to eliminate the consequences. All necessary measures are being taken to stabilize power and gas supplies,” Halushchenko stated.

Russia targets Ukraine’s gas infrastructure in 17th strike on Naftogaz facilities

One of the key targets of the Russian missile attack on March 7 was Ukraine’s gas production facilities, according to Naftogaz Ukraine, the state-owned energy company.

“This marks the 17th combined attack on Naftogaz Group’s gas transportation infrastructure. Production facilities responsible for gas extraction have been damaged. Fortunately, there are no casualties,” Naftogaz reported.

Recovery efforts and damage assessments are currently underway.

“Naftogaz Group is taking all necessary measures to restore operations. We will do everything possible to ensure the country continues to have gas,” said Naftogaz CEO Roman Chumak.

Missiles strike Poltava region, injuring civilians and damaging gas pipeline

Russian forces launched repeated missile strikes on the Myrhorod district of the Poltava region overnight. By morning, local authorities confirmed significant damage, including a hit on a gas pipeline.

“Debris from an enemy projectile struck a residential home. Unfortunately, two people were injured, including a child. They have been hospitalized and are receiving medical attention,” Poltava’s regional administration reported.

In addition to the pipeline, two private homes were damaged. Officials are assessing the number of residents affected by gas supply disruptions.

Russian missiles strike industrial site in Chernihiv region

Russian forces also targeted critical infrastructure in the Chernihiv region, causing explosions in the Pryluky district.

“Last night, Russian terrorists attacked Ukrainian critical infrastructure. In Chernihiv Oblast, explosions were reported in Pryluky, where an industrial site was damaged,” said regional governor Viacheslav Chaus.

Missiles hit civilian infrastructure in Kharkiv, leaving eight injured

In Kharkiv, Russian missiles struck an industrial facility, injuring at least eight people, according to city Mayor Ihor Terekhov.

“Russian forces targeted a civilian infrastructure site. Rescuers pulled a woman from the rubble, and doctors are currently assessing her condition. Search and rescue operations are ongoing,” Terekhov stated.

The attack also damaged a nearby residential building, prompting the evacuation of its residents. At the time of reporting, at least eight people had been confirmed injured, including a 65-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man.

Ternopil region hit—gas supply may be affected

According to Ternopil region Governor Viacheslav Nehoda, a critical industrial facility in the Ternopil region was also damaged in Russia’s overnight attack, raising concerns over potential gas supply disruptions.

“As a result of the night’s enemy attack on Ternopil region, missiles hit a critical industrial site. There may be restrictions on gas supply,” Nehoda reported.

Air defense forces managed to intercept and destroy one Russian missile in the area. There were no reported casualties, but emergency teams are working to contain the damage.

Earlier, a Russian drone strike hit a warehouse on the outskirts of the Sumy and Odesa region overnight, killing a 32-year-old man, and injuring at least two other people.
