Russia Outnumbers Ukraine 4 to 8 Times in Troops, Yet Offensive Power Weakens
Russia’s forces maintain a numerical advantage over Ukraine, with manpower exceeding Ukrainian troops by 4-8 times on certain frontline sectors, but their offensive capability is gradually weakening, stated General Anatolii Barhylevych, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in an interview with Glavkom on November 20.
“The enemy has a massive human resource and spares no one,” Barhylevych said.
Since last month, Russian assaults included fewer and fewer people.
“A month ago, during their assaults, infantry fighting vehicles were swarmed with soldiers—10 to 15 troops would dismount from each vehicle, scatter, and advance like locusts. Now, it’s different. Sometimes, an enemy vehicle rolls into an attack, and only 3 to 5 soldiers disembark,” he added.
Despite the numbers, Ukraine’s defensive lines on the Donetsk region front are holding steady.
“The Armed Forces are doing everything possible to stabilize the frontline,” Barhylevych affirmed. “I am confident we will achieve this.”
The general also highlighted the proactive leadership of Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, noting his frequent presence near the combat zone.
“He regularly visits the areas of active fighting. I was there myself too not long ago,” Barhylevych said.
Earlier, an investigation by Russian media Vazhnyie Istorii revealed that over 1,000 soldiers from Russia’s 20th Guards Motor Rifle Division, based in Volgograd, deserted during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
