Russia has reportedly supplied KamAZ-53949 “Typhoon-K” armored vehicles to Ethiopia’s National Defense Forces, according to OSINT analyst Rich Tedd on February 16.

According to Rich Tedd, who published video footage on X, the vehicles were spotted in Ethiopia being transported on flatbed trailers.

The footage shows two trucks, each carrying two olive-colored Typhoon-K armored vehicles. Rich Tedd shared the material publicly, indicating that the equipment appears to be in Ethiopian service.

No official statement has been issued by the Russian or Ethiopian authorities regarding the reported delivery.

The KamAZ-53949 “Typhoon-K” is part of Russia’s Typhoon family of armored vehicles, a program launched in 2010 to develop a new generation of protected military transport platforms for the Russian Armed Forces. The 53949 variant was designed as a more compact and maneuverable version compared to the heavier three-axle models in the series.

The vehicle features a V-shaped hull intended to disperse blast energy from mines and improvised explosive devices. It is equipped with energy-absorbing seats and composite armor combining steel plates with ceramic inserts.

According to publicly available specifications, this configuration provides protection against armor-piercing small-arms fire and artillery shell fragments.

The KamAZ-53949 has a gross weight of approximately 15 tonnes and is powered by a 350-horsepower engine, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 105 km/h on paved roads. It can carry up to 10 personnel, including a two-member crew and eight dismounts.

The reported delivery comes amid broader scrutiny of Russia’s activities in Africa. According to an investigation published by All Eyes On Wagner on February 14, based on leaked documents, Russia’s foreign intelligence service prepared plans for a potential military coup in Senegal and sought to expand influence through coordinated political and media operations.

The investigation, based on 76 internal documents from 2023–2024, describes how Wagner’s assets were brought under direct state control and used to support lobbying, legislative interference, and information campaigns across more than 30 African countries.

Earlier, footage circulated online showing what appears to be Russia’s export-variant Su-57E stealth fighter flying over Algeria, according to Clash Report. The aircraft, accompanied by Su-35 jets in Algerian Air Force colors, was reportedly observed during a test or familiarization flight.
