Russia Unleashes Massive Drone and Missile Strikes on Ukraine’s Power Grid and Cities

In one of the most intense overnight assaults in recent weeks, Russia targeted Ukraine’s power grid and residential areas with missiles and Shahed-type drones, causing blackouts, fires, and civilian casualties. The strikes hit several regions, including Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv, disrupting essential infrastructure and forcing emergency power cuts.
Russian forces carried out a large-scale combined attack across Ukraine overnight, launching hypersonic Kinzhal and Kalibr cruise missiles alongside Iranian-made Shahed drones.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia used a combination of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, Kalibr cruise missiles, ballistic weapons, and Iranian-made Shahed drones. Several waves of air alerts were declared nationwide as at least seven MiG aircraft were detected in the air.

The Ministry of Energy confirmed that emergency power shutdowns were imposed in Kyiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, and Sumy regions due to “massive attacks on energy infrastructure.” Officials stated that power would be restored as soon as the system stabilizes.
Kyiv region: homes and energy sites damaged
The Kyiv region came under heavy fire as drones and missiles struck residential zones and power facilities.
“All night, the enemy massively attacked Kyiv region with missiles and drones. Peaceful settlements and energy infrastructure were targeted,” said regional head Mykola Kalashnyk.
Private homes and vehicles were damaged in Boryspil and Vyshhorod districts. One woman was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds to her leg. Emergency services worked through the night to extinguish fires and document the damage.

In the capital, the State Emergency Service reported two separate incidents in the Pechersk district. Fires broke out after drone debris hit a logistics area, damaging four trucks and two nearby buildings.
Another fire caused by drone fragments was contained before rescue teams arrived. No casualties were reported in Kyiv city.
Dnipro region: residential building hit, civilian casualties reported
Dnipro suffered one of the most devastating attacks of the night. According to the regional administration, a Russian drone struck a nine-story apartment building, killing two women and injuring twelve people, including a 13-year-old girl.

The explosion destroyed apartments between the fourth and sixth floors, sparking a large fire. “Rescuers evacuated 28 people, including five children,” the State Emergency Service said. Seven victims remain hospitalized in moderate condition.
Regional governor Vladyslav Haivanenko confirmed that rescuers recovered the body of a second woman from the rubble. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko earlier said that two residents were missing, prompting search operations—one of them was later found dead.
Additional strikes hit the Samarskyi district, where a private home caught fire, and Pavlohrad, where a local business and garage were damaged.

In the Synelnykove area, infrastructure and vehicles sustained heavy damage, while in Nikopol district, Russian forces used FPV drones and artillery to shell civilian areas. Local authorities reported three additional injuries in separate attacks across the region.
Kharkiv region: guided bombs and missile strikes
Russian forces launched missile and guided bomb strikes on the outskirts of Kharkiv, damaging residential and industrial buildings. Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that a gas station and several cars were destroyed in the settlement of Korotych. Eight civilians were hospitalized.

Due to the damage to power lines, Kharkiv city experienced partial outages in electricity and water supply. The metro system was temporarily shut down and functioned as a bomb shelter. In the village of Pisochyn, emergency crews extinguished fires caused by a direct hit from a guided bomb.
Poltava region: power blackouts after energy facility strikes
In Poltava region, Russian missiles hit energy infrastructure facilities, leaving Kremenchuk and Horishni Plavni without electricity. Governor Volodymyr Kohut stated that “the region suffered a massive strike aimed at crippling the power network.”
Local authorities deployed emergency buses after electric transport stopped working and began distributing water to residents.

Kremenchuk’s mayor, Vitalii Maletskyi, confirmed that heating and water supply were partially restored through backup systems. Horishni Plavni city council warned that repairs could take time due to extensive damage.
One civilian was injured in the attack and received medical assistance.
Odesa region: fire at energy facility
In Odesa region, Russian Shahed drones targeted an energy facility, causing a fire that burned for several hours. According to the State Emergency Service, no injuries or deaths were reported, but repeated air raid alerts complicated firefighting efforts.

Chernihiv region: strikes on critical infrastructure
In Chernihiv region, missiles and drones hit an energy facility in Pryluky district, setting off a fire that emergency services later contained. No casualties were reported, but the facility sustained significant damage.

Kirovohrad region: infrastructure hit
Kirovohrad region also came under attack, with explosions reported in Oleksandriia district. Governor Andrii Raikovych said that emergency services quickly contained fires at critical infrastructure sites. “There are no casualties, and all services are working to assess the damage,” he added.

This wave of strikes marks one of the largest Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy network since early autumn. According to the Ministry of Energy, the assaults are part of a broader campaign aimed at exhausting Ukraine’s power grid as temperatures drop.
Earlier, Russian strikes hit civilian and energy targets across Ukraine, killing one person and injuring at least eight, according to national and regional authorities. The State Emergency Service reported a fatality in Zaporizhzhia region, where rescuers recovered a man’s body from the rubble after a building was destroyed.
