Russian Drone Strikes Hit Railway and Energy Infrastructure in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv

In the early hours of October 7, 2025, Russia launched massive overnight strikes targeting Ukraine’s energy and railway infrastructure, with Poltava, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions suffering the most damage.
In Poltava region, Russian forces attacked railway facilities—hitting a locomotive depot, power supply units, and traction substations. Administrative and storage buildings, as well as rolling stock, were damaged. Fires broke out but were promptly extinguished by rescuers. No casualties were reported.
According to Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba, train services between Kharkiv–Lviv, Lviv–Kharkiv, and Kramatorsk–Lviv were temporarily delayed but have since resumed.
Russian attack drones also struck an energy facility, leaving 28 businesses and over 1,000 households without electricity. A private house was also damaged.


Russian strike drones also attacked the Sumy community. The drones hit a civilian infrastructure site, damaging residential buildings and causing partial power outages.
A 60-year-old woman was injured, and a 61-year-old man sustained wounds from the explosion of an unidentified object. Both are under medical supervision.
In the Krasnopillia community, a 52-year-old man was injured in a strike involving guided aerial bombs, while a 35-year-old man was wounded in an FPV drone attack. In the Yunakivka community, a 49-year-old woman suffered severe injuries from another FPV drone strike and remains in serious condition.
In Kharkiv, Russian forces launched a drone attack that caused destruction and a fire at a civilian enterprise in the Nemishlyanskyi district. No casualties were reported. Firefighters, medics, and emergency teams are working on site, State Emergency Service (SES) reported.

In Chernihiv region, Russian troops continued shelling civilian targets. Drone strikes caused a fire in a residential building on the outskirts of Chernihiv and damaged an energy facility. One man sustained minor injuries but refused hospitalization.

In the Prylutskyi district, Russian forces struck energy and agricultural facilities. In Novhorod-Siverskyi district, attack drones hit a grain elevator and a residential building in another settlement. In Koriukivka district, a drone targeted an infrastructure enterprise. All fires resulting from the strikes were promptly extinguished by emergency crews.
Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that Ukrainian defense companies are set to launch new joint production projects in Denmark.
