A Russian FPV drone struck the vehicle of a rescuer in the Sumy region, Pavlo Kolisnyk, as he was returning from his shift, the State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine reported on February 25.

The inccident took place in the Velikopysarivka community. Kolisnyk was returning home from his shift when a Russian drone struck his vehicle. He had been serving with the SES since 1997.

“This is another painful and tragic loss for the rescuers of Sumy region and the entire SES family of Ukraine. Russia has taken another father, son, loyal friend, and dependable colleague,” the SES of Sumy region said.

Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, confirmed that the man was 57 years old.

This is not the first time Russia targets Ukrainian rescuers. On February 5, Russian forces launched attacks on Ukrainian rescue teams in the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, damaging firefighting equipment, as reported by the State Emergency Service.

That morning, Russian troops targeted a fire and rescue station in a frontline settlement in Zaporizhzhia. The strike damaged firefighting vehicles, as well as the building’s roof, doors, and windows. Fortunately, the personnel were sheltered at the time, and no rescuers were injured.

Russian forces also struck rescuers in Dnipropetrovsk while they were working to extinguish a fire in the Synelnykivka district. A firefighting vehicle was damaged in a follow-up drone attack. However, the rescuers had already moved to a safe location, and no injuries were reported.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that Serhii Vlasenko, a firefighter from Kyiv, lost his home when a Russian drone struck the residential building where he lived with his family.

Klymenko shared that Vlasenko, 35, who has served for 15 years, was on duty at the time of the attack. The drone strike completely destroyed his apartment in a fire. At the time, Vlasenko’s mother, wife, and two young children were inside. Thanks to the air-raid alert, they were able to reach shelter in time, which ultimately saved their lives.
