A Russian oil tanker was heavily damaged and began sinking after being struck by a Ukrainian drone near the marine terminal of the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Products Plant, military-focused platform Militarnyi reported on December 18.
The strike occurred overnight, with the tanker adjacent to a key oil transfer terminal. The governor of Russia’s Rostov region, Yuri Slyusar, confirmed damage to the vessel and reported both fatalities and injuries among the crew.

This is the second reported Ukrainian attack in the area within a week. On December 15, a strike caused a fire roughly 850 meters from the current impact site, suggesting a sustained campaign targeting Russia’s fuel infrastructure in the region.
Militarnyi noted that following the strike, the vessel’s stern began submerging, and the ship took on water up to the level of its superstructure. Emergency crews quickly sealed off the area, and containment booms were deployed around the tanker.
