According to Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov on March 29, Ukrainian forces are receiving daily video evidence from the front lines showing such incidents.
Separate statements from Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces describe similar patterns observed by frontline units. “Such a brutal suicide is the result of decisions made in Russia,” Fedorov said.
According to Fedorov, these incidents typically occur after soldiers are wounded by drones or when they find themselves surrounded by multiple Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. Ukrainian military personnel from the 7th Air Assault Corps reported that the frequency of such cases is increasing, noting that “with each day this number is growing.”
According to statements from Ukrainian officials, Russian troops are often deployed with limited training, face restricted evacuation options, and operate under constant drone surveillance and attack. They also point to Russian military policies that discourage surrender.
“Propaganda says it is better to die immediately,” Fedorov wrote, adding that captured soldiers “have every chance of being exchanged.”

Ukrainian estimates suggest that March 2026 could become a record month in terms of Russian losses. According to Fedorov, current battlefield dynamics indicate that Russian casualties may exceed 30,000 killed and seriously wounded. He added that reaching 50,000 losses in a single month would have “catastrophic consequences” for Russian forces.
Ukrainian officials also indicated that discussions are ongoing regarding how to formally account for such incidents in battlefield reporting systems, including proposals to credit units operating in areas where these events are recorded, provided there is video confirmation.
The increased role of drones across the front has significantly altered battlefield conditions since 2024, with Ukrainian forces relying on the large-scale deployment of FPV and reconnaissance UAVs to track, engage, and isolate enemy personnel.

Ukrainian military units have repeatedly reported that persistent drone presence limits movement, complicates evacuation, and increases psychological pressure on opposing forces.
Earlier, according to Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces on March 26, Ukrainian troops regained control of nine settlements and around 440 square kilometers during a counteroffensive on the Oleksandrivka axis, reporting over 3,600 Russian casualties and significant losses in equipment, including tanks, artillery systems, and more than 1,200 drones.
