Russian Troops Ride Into Battle in “Convertible” Battle Truck—Ukraine Blows It Up

Ukrainian defense units have successfully repelled a Russian assault near the village of Dobropillia in Zaporizhzhia region, targeting a modified military truck used to transport assault troops, according to video footage released by the press services of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade and the 122nd Territorial Defense Brigade.
On January 24, Russian forces deployed a customized military truck—described by Ukrainian soldiers as a “convertible Ural”—to deliver an infantry assault team near the frontlines close to Dobropillia.

The vehicle was destroyed in a joint operation by the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade and the 122nd Territorial Defense Brigade.
Russian forces modified a Ural military truck by removing its roof and doors and installing a tubular frame to enable infantry to hold on during high-speed advances. The vehicle was also equipped with electronic warfare (EW) systems designed to disrupt Ukrainian reconnaissance and attack drones.
The EW systems allowed the truck to bypass some drone strikes en route to the Ukrainian line. The assault team, estimated at approximately ten soldiers, managed to approach within range of Ukrainian defensive positions before encountering resistance.
According to the 122nd Territorial Defense Brigade, two Ukrainian soldiers from its 5th Battalion opened fire on the advancing troops and held their position until reinforcements arrived.

FPV drones, loitering munitions, and artillery from the 110th Brigade were then used to neutralize the Russian group. The Ukrainian side confirmed the use of cluster munitions during the engagement.
A video released by the brigades shows the strike, including the use of a 155mm cluster artillery shell on a group of Russian infantry near the destroyed vehicle.
Earlier, Ukrainian airborne troops from the 8th Air Assault Corps reported destroying two Russian Buk air‑defense systems — a Buk‑M2 and a more advanced Buk‑M3 — in successive precision strikes on the northern Slobozhanskyi axis, removing roughly $70 million worth of enemy surface‑to‑air missile equipment in a single day.
