Russia’s Samara Region Bans Filming Drone Attacks, Violators Face $11,000 Fines

Authorities in Russia’s Samara region have formally introduced a ban on photographing, filming, or distributing any material related to drone attacks and their consequences. The decision was taken by the regional operational headquarters and made public on September 8.
Under the new rules, it is forbidden to record or publish images and videos showing the use of counter-drone systems, crash sites of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or areas affected by drone strikes. The order specifically prohibits the release of details that could reveal the type of UAV, its flight trajectory, launch point, or the precise location of an attack, as well as the extent of damage to any target.

The restrictions go beyond footage of strikes. They also cover information about the temporary deployment of Russian military units and law enforcement personnel, the location of military infrastructure, counter-drone systems, communications facilities, and security installations around energy, industrial and utility sites. Bridges and other pieces of critical infrastructure are also included in the list of protected objects.
Officials said the measure was necessary to prevent the disclosure of sensitive information that could be used by hostile forces. Those who violate the ban risk heavy penalties, with fines of up to $11,000.
The Samara region has been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian long-range drones in recent months, including strikes against fuel and energy infrastructure.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian National Guard drone operators destroyed a Russian S-300V air-defense system and associated radar in the Zaporizhzhia region.
