Slovak Opposition Files Criminal Complaint Against Fico for Treason Over Halted Energy Supplies to Ukraine

The Slovak opposition party SaS has announced its intention to file a criminal complaint against Prime Minister Robert Fico’s decision to halt humanitarian electricity supplies to Ukraine.
According to Dennik N on February 24, citing Member of Parliament Karol Galek, this decision represents a shift in stance against Ukraine, positioning Fico alongside Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

SaS leader Branislav Gröhling stated that the charges would include abuse of power by a public official, treason, inhumanity, terrorism, and failure to fulfill duties regarding the management of foreign assets.
The party organized a press conference outside the General Prosecutor’s Office, where Galek warned that the suspension of energy supplies could lead to serious consequences, such as hospitals lacking power to treat wounded individuals following Russian attacks.
According to the outlet, Fico's decision came after the suspension of Russian oil deliveries via the Druzhba pipeline, which was halted following a Russian strike on January 27. The Slovak Prime Minister placed the blame on Ukraine, accusing it of deliberately delaying the restoration of oil supplies.

This is not the first time Slovakia has taken such a step. On February 18, Slovakia and Hungary both announced the suspension of diesel fuel exports to Ukraine until oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline is restored.
According to Hungarian outlets Index and Telex, the Slovak government confirmed that Prime Minister Fico ordered the halt of diesel exports following the suspension of crude oil deliveries due to large-scale Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
To address domestic fuel needs, the Slovak government has approved the release of 250,000 tons of oil from state reserves.

"Slovnaft is stopping diesel exports to Ukraine and any other exports, and everything it now processes at home, in Slovakia, will be intended for the Slovak market," Fico stated.
Earlier, it was reported that Slovakia’s state-owned gas supplier, Slovenský plynárenský priemysel, intends to fulfill all of its domestic gas supply requirements in 2026 using Russian pipeline gas, taking advantage of an EU exemption for holders of long-term contracts.
