Sloviansk Closes Schools and Cancels Public Events Amid Security Concerns
Sloviansk, located in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, has announced the closure of schools and the suspension of public events, transitioning students to remote learning.
These measures were implemented following an official directive from the head of the city’s military administration, Vadym Liakh.
According to the directive, the decision is aimed at addressing the increasing risks to civilian safety and preventing potential emergencies within the Sloviansk community. The order explicitly prohibits in-person educational activities and any other operations that resemble educational functions.
Additionally, facilities related to culture, youth policy, physical education, and sports will cease activities involving minors. Exceptions are permitted only for events with a maximum of two participants.
Sloviansk is situated approximately 25 kilometers from the frontlines in Donetsk and is part of the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk urban agglomeration, the largest area under Ukrainian control in the region.
Earlier, on September 7, Russian forces conducted an airstrike on the village of Mykolaivka near Sloviansk, targeting a hotel that partially collapsed in the attack. Two people were killed, and rescue teams cleared over 100 tons of debris during recovery efforts, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
