Trump Warns of “Complete Destruction” of Iran Infrastructure if Hormuz Remains Blocked

US President Donald Trump declared that American forces will destroy Iran’s infrastructure overnight unless Tehran unblocks the Strait of Hormuz, Suspilne reported on April 7, citing a White House press conference.
Trump delivered an ultimatum regarding his impending deadline. “We have a plan based on the strength of our Armed Forces, according to which every bridge in Iran will be destroyed by midnight. Every power plant in Iran will be disabled, burn, blow up, and will never be used again. I mean complete destruction by midnight,” the US president stated.

However, he also extended a conditional offer of future cooperation if Tehran yields to his demands. “We don’t want that to happen. We might even join in helping them rebuild the country. And you know what? If that’s the case, the last thing we want to do is start with power plants, which are some of the most expensive facilities, and bridges.”

Trump asserted that previous US strikes have already forced political leadership changes in Iran twice, making the new leaders more amenable to negotiations than their predecessors. He confirmed that US Vice President JD Vance will likely participate in the talks to end the war, alongside special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who are currently engaged with regional mediators, Suspilne wrote.
The President’s stark midnight ultimatum comes as mediators from the US, Egypt, and Turkey make a last-ditch effort to broker a 45-day ceasefire. The proposed two-phase agreement aims to establish a temporary cessation of hostilities and the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz while a permanent end to the war is negotiated.
The Strait of Hormuz remains the world’s most vital oil chokepoint, handling 20% of global petroleum consumption. While Tehran has previously resisted a temporary truce—fearing the US and Israel will simply resume strikes at will—regional mediators have explicitly warned Iranian officials that the next few hours represent their final opportunity to avert a bombing campaign that will devastate the country’s energy sector.
