The United Kingdom will provide Denmark with counter-drone systems after a series of incidents involving unidentified drones disrupted the country in recent days.

The announcement came from British Defense Secretary John Healey, who confirmed the decision during an interview with Politico on September 29.

The Danish government has determined that the drones spotted over airports across the country were operated by a “professional operator.”

“No one should doubt that we are facing a level of activity and aggression in the ‘grey zone’ that poses a challenge to us and other countries,” Healey said.

He stressed that the deployment of British counter-drone systems in Denmark is a necessary step “in response to the drone attacks observed at its main airport and regional airports.”

At the same time, Sweden has also announced additional support for Denmark. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said his country would provide radar units and military-grade anti-drone systems, Reuters reported on September 29.

The move comes as Copenhagen prepares to host two major gatherings this week: an EU leaders’ summit on October 1 and a meeting of the 47-member European Political Community on October 2.

According to Reuters, Denmark has already tightened security measures ahead of the events following a series of drone incursions that disrupted air traffic at six airports last week, including Copenhagen Airport—the busiest in the Nordic region. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described the incidents as a “hybrid attack” against her country.

Earlier, France, Germany, and Sweden announced they would send military personnel and anti-drone systems to Denmark to bolster security at this week’s European summits in Copenhagen, after recent drone incursions forced the shutdown of several Danish airports.
