Ukraine Now Produces 60% of Weapons for Its Armed Forces, Says Zelenskyy

Ukraine has reached a new milestone in domestic weapons production, with nearly 60 percent of military equipment supplied to its armed forces now made in the country.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who delivered his remarks in a video address on September 6, the figure reflects how Ukraine’s defense industry has expanded during the full-scale war with Russia.

“Over the course of this war, Ukraine has already reached the level where almost 60% of the weapons we have, that our soldiers have, are Ukrainian weapons—and they are strong weapons, many advanced items,” Zelenskyy said.

The president also confirmed that Ukraine is launching new joint production projects with international partners. For the first time, Kyiv is establishing a weapons factory abroad, in cooperation with Denmark, which will produce components for missiles and drones. Zelenskyy emphasized that these systems “have already proven themselves on the battlefield.”

He noted that Kyiv still aims to expand into new areas of production, particularly air defense systems. “This is a challenge. We must also achieve this. Ukraine has already proven that in weapons production, we are among the best in the world,” he said.

The announcement follows broader efforts by Ukraine to scale up defense manufacturing and secure technology-sharing agreements with Western partners. Kyiv has prioritized domestic missile, drone, and artillery development, while also pursuing joint ventures to strengthen its defense sector and reduce reliance on foreign supplies.

Earlier, Ukraine deployed domestically produced interceptor drones alongside F-16 fighter jets during a Russian overnight strike on August 30, with Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat confirming the systems performed effectively as part of the country’s expanding air defense.
