Ukraine’s parliament ratified a landmark agreement with the United Kingdom establishing a “100-year partnership” aimed at strengthening defense, security, and economic cooperation for generations to come. The measure passed with 295 votes in favor, according to lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak on September 17.

The agreement was originally signed on January 16, marking what officials described as a historic step in deepening bilateral ties. Its provisions cover a wide range of areas, from military cooperation to trade and cultural exchange.

Key points of the pact include:

  • expanding defense cooperation and security ties;

  • advancing consensus on Ukraine’s NATO membership bid;

  • building partnerships in maritime security;

  • increasing economic and trade collaboration;

  • enhancing cooperation on energy, climate, and the transition to clean power;

  • strengthening justice mechanisms and accountability;

  • countering foreign disinformation and interference;

  • promoting science, technology, and innovation leadership;

  • expanding cooperation in human rights, gender equality, social integration, and protection;

  • coordinating policies on migration.

As part of the deal, the UK will expand its role in training Ukrainian fighter jet pilots and assist in securing NATO-standard aircraft for Kyiv. The partnership also envisions deeper cooperation on long-range weapons and investment in Ukraine’s defense industry, particularly in drone and artillery production.

Officials in Kyiv have framed the pact as both symbolic and practical—an agreement that underscores Britain’s long-term commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and security, while bolstering its ability to resist Russian aggression.

Earlier, reports emerged that US President Donald Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, would become the first in history to be formally welcomed to Windsor Castle.

While not part of the official program, both political and royal aides expect that the issue of Ukraine will be raised. A senior defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that the king is “very close” to the details of ceasefire discussions and to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
