Ukraine has received artillery ammunition worth €4 million, funded by donations from Slovak citizens who wanted to contribute to the “Czech initiative” for purchasing military supplies after the Slovak government declined to participate, reported Slovak outlet Noviny on October 7.

The ammunition arrived in Ukraine on six trucks. Previously, it was reported that the €4 million, raised by 70,000 Slovaks in just three weeks, would be used to purchase 2,692 artillery shells.

“Per capita, we have donated more than Canada, Iceland, or Slovenia. The global press noticed our crowd-fund as soon as it started. After we announced that we had raised €4 million in just three weeks, Ukrainian defenders expressed their gratitude to the Slovaks,” said Fedor Blaščák, one of the organizers of the fundraising campaign.

He added that, of the total €4.5 million collected, €4 million has already been used. The remaining €500,000 will soon be spent on purchasing grenades for grenade launchers by the end of the year.

The campaign began in May, spearheaded by Slovak civil organizations Mier Ukrajine, Darček pre Putina, Donio, and All4Ukraine.

Former Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok, who recently lost the presidential election to pro-Russian politician Peter Pellegrini, also joined the initiative.

Meanwhile, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico downplayed the significance of the €4 million raised for Ukraine, stating that it “would not change the situation”.

Despite Fico’s remarks, activists said that the primary goal was to symbolically align Slovakia with the “Czech initiative"—a goal they successfully achieved.

Previously, Ukriane launched a grant program to boost missile and gunpowder manufacturing.
