Ukraine Requests 10 Patriot Systems in Dialogue With Trump, Says Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that he held a positive dialogue with US President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine’s request for additional Patriot air defense systems.
Speaking to journalists during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome on July 10, Zelenskyy stated:
“We’ve had a positive dialogue with President Trump regarding Patriot systems. My request includes 10 Patriot systems along with the necessary number of missiles.”
The President emphasized that once a timeline is confirmed by the manufacturer and the US regarding delivery, additional European partners are expected to join the effort.
“When we receive a clear response from the manufacturer and confirmation from the US on the delivery schedule, other European partners will also step in. That’s the current funding model,” Zelenskyy explained.

Zelenskyy acknowledged the high cost of the systems but noted that securing funding is part of his responsibility.
“Of course, we understand the price, but it’s my job to find the money. We already have an idea of where the initial funding will come from. I’m confident we’ll succeed,” Zelenskyy said.
He also hinted that Ukraine is engaged in broader discussions beyond Patriot systems: “The package is actually much bigger—and we’re keeping the rest of that dialogue private for now.”
On peace talks, Zelenskyy said it is too early to speak of full-fledged negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the US, as prior agreements—specifically those made during the second meeting in Istanbul—must be fulfilled first.
“We need to finalize the agreed exchanges before any further talks. Only then can teams begin preparing a possible leaders’ summit,” Zelenskyy stated, adding that a high-level meeting between Ukraine, Russia, and the US would be the preferred format.

He expressed appreciation for mediation offers from the Vatican, Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey, but stressed that concrete results must come first.
“We are ready for any format, but we need real actions—not just words and promises at the table.”
On July 8, CNN reported that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a halt to the shipment of 155 mm artillery rounds and air-defense systems bound for Ukraine—along with other high-demand munitions—without informing senior White House officials.
On July 10, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States has not made a political decision to halt weapons deliveries to Ukraine, and recent pauses in supplies were caused by technical factors.
