Ukrainian developers have tested new long-range drones capable of striking targets over 40 kilometers (25 miles) away, aiming to expand the country's battlefield "kill zone."

According to Brave1  one May 23, more than ten teams specializing in fixed-wing loitering munitions participated in a demonstration of their strike drones.

This was the first in a planned series of three testing events focused on advancing Ukraine’s development of fixed-wing one-way attack drones. The goal is to establish a deep strike zone of 30–40 kilometers (19–25 miles) or more—an area where Russian forces would be unable to mass troops or supplies.

These drones are expected to play a critical role in destroying enemy logistics routes, ammunition depots, equipment, and air defense systems deep behind the front lines.

Manufacturers were required to meet specific standards, including affordable specialized video transmission systems and other technical criteria.

The purpose of the first round was to assess the readiness of current domestic drone solutions and identify the most effective among them. Selected systems will move on to the next stage of testing, where they’ll be further refined.

In addition to complete drone platforms, the event also featured Ukrainian-made components and AI-driven software, which could eventually be integrated into future loitering munitions to enhance their capabilities.

Representatives from Ukraine’s security and defense forces attended the tests, spoke with developers, and received detailed performance reports.

The demonstration follows recent news of Ukraine’s development of the Batyar—a new multi-role strike drone capable of flying over 800 kilometers (497 miles).
