Ukraine to Share Battlefield Data to Allies, Fueling AI-Driven and Defense Systems

Ukraine will allow its allied nations to train AI models using its valuable combat data accumulated during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Financial Times (FT) reported, citing the country’s new Defense Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, on January 21
Speaking in Kyiv, Fedorov, who was previously Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, emphasized the importance of the data Ukraine has gathered, particularly from its extensive drone operations since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

“Partners want our data. We will build a system on which they can train their software products using our data,” Fedorov said, highlighting the critical role such information plays in training AI systems for military purposes. The data will help AI models improve decision-making and predict patterns in warfare, FT wrote.
Ukraine has already begun developing autonomous air defense solutions, and Fedorov hopes this new AI training initiative will accelerate technological progress.

The program will be integrated with Ukraine’s Brave1 platform, which supports defense tech projects and facilitates collaboration with organizations such as the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), according to FT.
“Had a conversation with UK Defence Secretary John Healey. Strengthening air defense is priority No. 1. We agreed on systematic data sharing, R&D, and the development of joint projects, including Octopus drones. Grateful to the UK for their consistent support,” Fedorov wrote in a post on X.

Fedorov also confirmed that Ukraine and the UK have agreed to a systematic exchange of data on weapons use, reinforcing the growing cooperation between Ukraine and its allies. “We don’t expect anyone to save us—we are relying on our own strength,” he stated, emphasizing Ukraine’s resolve to defend its airspace and deliver a decisive blow to Russia’s economy.
Previously, it was reported that Ukraine plans to deploy a new generation of domestically produced, artificial intelligence-powered air-defense interceptors and has signed an agreement with US defense software company Palantir to build an advanced data platform aimed at predicting and defeating Russian missile and drone attacks.
