A new Ukrainian electronic warfare system designed to counter drones such as Mavic and FPV models has been unveiled in Lviv during the forum “Joint Enterprises, Joint Defense.”

The system, named DF-M, was developed by the Ukrainian company Piranha Tech, according to Oboronka on September 2.

Piranha Tech’s Deputy Director Anatolii Khrapchynskyi told Oboronka that the DF-M introduces a modular approach, allowing units to select jamming blocks for specific frequency ranges most commonly used by enemy drones on the front line. “DF-M is essentially a constructor that can be assembled to meet specific needs,” he said.

The system can be deployed on a wide range of platforms, from stationary tripods to pickup trucks and armored vehicles.

According to Oboronka, DF-M can engage targets at distances of up to 1.5 kilometers with directional antennas, creating effective protection against drones such as Mavic and Autel used for dropping explosives.

Alternatively, omnidirectional antennas can create a protective dome extending 100 meters over positions.

Khrapchynskyi noted that weaker drones without advanced firmware can be neutralized at even greater ranges: “If a Mavic is ‘weak,’ meaning it does not have advanced military firmware and controllers, this system closes the sky at 3 km.”

The system covers frequencies between 100 MHz and 7,000 MHz depending on the installed modules. Soldiers can swap antennas and jamming blocks directly in the field, avoiding the need to procure multiple types of jamming systems for different tasks.

According to Oboronka, DF-M’s software was designed with adaptability in mind, allowing updates to counter changes made by drone manufacturers. “Minor updates from manufacturers like Mavic and Autel are easily adjusted,” Khrapchynskyi said.

The system can integrate with radars or electronic reconnaissance systems to automatically create jamming sectors and control multiple systems at once. Remote operation has also been incorporated, enabling control from anywhere in the world through secure communications channels.

Piranha Tech’s production capacity currently allows for the manufacture of up to 500 DF-M units per month. The cost of a system tailored to counter drones such as the Mavic is about $24,000.

Earlier, Ukrainian defense company UNWAVE introduced “Pastka,” a software solution that automates electronic warfare and intelligence systems against drones.

The system, first shown at DALO Industry Days 2025, provides real-time situational awareness, can function automatically or remotely, and is designed to protect critical infrastructure and frontline positions from drone threats.
