Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met Chile’s President-elect José Antonio Kast in Santiago ahead of his inauguration, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on March 10.
Sybiha stated after arriving in the Chilean capital that he was honored to hold the meeting and that he valued assurances that Chile’s support for Ukraine and for a quicker restoration of peace would remain unwavering.
He also expressed hope that Kast would personally engage in efforts to achieve what Kyiv describes as a just and lasting peace.

“We discussed the areas where we can strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, from agriculture to digitalization and drone technologies. Ukraine is ready to work closely with the new administration, open a new chapter in relations, and unlock its full potential,” Sybiha said.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry told the Santiago leg of the tour was centered on Kast’s inauguration and meetings aimed at defining priorities for further bilateral cooperation.
The visit forms part of Sybiha’s March 10-13 tour of Chile and Panama, which Ukraine has described as the first such trip by its foreign minister to those countries in 13 years.

In a separate development, Sybiha informed that Ukraine is preparing evacuation scenarios and expanding consular support for roughly 250,000 Ukrainian citizens amid rising tensions in the Middle East and deteriorating security conditions.
He said that Kyiv has increased hotline capacity and is coordinating with diplomatic missions to assist citizens with documentation, travel options, and emergency assistance if routes close or violence spreads.
Sybiha said the ministry is also working with partners and host governments to secure safe corridors and contingency transport, urging Ukrainians in the region to stay in contact with consulates and follow official updates.
