Ukraine’s I-SEE drone-detection system using artificial intelligence could support a future domestic active protection concept against drones, according to Defense Express on March 1.

The report said the developers view an APS built around I-SEE as a promising direction for protecting armored vehicles. It noted that anti-drone APS is an emerging field. It cited Germany’s SCILT system by Mehler Protection as an example.

Defense Express described I-SEE as a hardware and software complex using computer vision for visual drone detection and tracking.

The system can cover the full cycle from detection to real-time tracking. It can also support physical neutralization if integrated with kinetic or non-kinetic tools.

Footage posted online on the I-SEE Telegram channel shows an early test of the system detecting a Mavic drone.

The developers said I-SEE is optically passive  and “invisible” to radio-electronic reconnaissance. They said this could matter against fiber-optic FPV drones.

“We have now completed the development and testing stage of the key software, and we are in an active phase of integrating our software with hardware platforms,” the developers told Defense Express.

The outlet reported that the system has already been integrated with net launchers. It published the daytime detection ranges provided by the company.

The figures included 250–300 meters for FPV drones with 2x cameras and about 1 kilometer with 5x cameras. It also listed up to 2.5 kilometers for a Mavic 3T at maximum zoom.

Earlier, it was reported that a Ukrainian firm and a Danish defense company partnered to develop a low-cost AI-enabled drone interceptor designed to detect, track, and kinetically neutralize aerial threats.

It uses cameras without emitting radar or radio signals, so it’s harder for electronic reconnaissance to detect.
