Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) have confirmed that they successfully targeted a Russian patrol ship and an offshore oil platform in the Caspian Sea on the night of December 19, SOF wrote in a post in Telegram on December 20.

The Russian vessel, a Project 22460 “Okhotnik” class patrol ship, was hit by multiple drones. These ships are designed for maritime border security, patrols, and control of sea activities.

Additionally, the SOF state that their drones struck the Filanovsky oil drilling platform, which is part of a major oil and gas field owned by Russian company Lukoil.

The platform plays a key role in producing and exporting oil and gas, vital to Russia’s economy and war funding.

The platform’s initial reserves are estimated at 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas. The extent of the damage to the platform and its future operational capacity is still being assessed.

“Special operations forces continue to take asymmetric actions to stop Russia’s military aggression,” SOF wrote.

Previously, it was reported that SOF, working in coordination with the partisan movement “Chornaya Iskra” (“Black Spark”), have carried out a special operation in the Caspian Sea, striking two Russian vessels used to transport weapons and military equipment, according to the SOF press service on December 12.
