Ukrainian Company Realgold Unveils Locally Made Electric Motors for FPV and Interceptor Drones

Ukrainian defense tech company Realgold has presented its own line of domestically produced electric motors for FPV drones, including models designed for interceptor drones.
The announcement was made during the Defense Tech Valley 2025 exhibition, where a Realgold representative spoke to Militarnyi about the company’s products.
According to Militarnyi on September 20, the first batch of motors for drones was manufactured in January 2025. Since then, production has scaled to 10,000 units per month.

Currently, Realgold offers three types of motors: 2807, 3110, and 3115, designed for FPV drones with 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch frames, respectively. Each model can be modified according to specific client needs. In addition to regular FPV drones, Realgold is also producing engines tailored for interceptor drones.
The company representative noted that if necessary, production could be expanded up to 100,000 units per month “without significant investment,” provided there are sufficient orders, Militarmyi reported. However, Realgold faces difficulties competing with Chinese manufacturers, mainly due to gaps in Ukrainian legislation.
“Currently, imported drone components enjoy certain advantages: they are brought in for military use without customs duties or VAT. But when we import components, we have to pay both VAT and customs duties. As a result, this VAT is included in our production costs… In this way, a Ukrainian manufacturer essentially loses out to, say, a Chinese company,” he explained.
According to Militarnyi, negotiations between private manufacturers and Ukrainian authorities are underway to resolve this imbalance, though no final decision has yet been reached.

In parallel, the company is moving ahead with plans to localize production. At present, finished parts for motors are ordered from China, while winding is carried out in Ukraine. However, Realgold has already purchased the necessary equipment and will begin producing these parts independently by the end of the year.
Complete independence from imported raw materials remains impossible, as some components, such as electrical steel, are not manufactured in Ukraine. Even so, the company estimates it can achieve up to 70% localization in the near future, as reported by Militarnyi.
The company’s representative stressed that in order to be strong in the future, Ukraine needs to establish its own production and R&D. He noted that while the team was not yet highly experienced in electromechanics, the assembly process was already helping them gain a deeper understanding. Without investment today and a willingness to pay more for the products currently available, he warned, this path forward would simply not be possible.
“Of course, it’s easier to buy something on AliExpress and bring it here, but that won’t give us the experience, the knowledge, or keep the money in Ukraine,” the company’s representative concluded.
Earlier, Ukraine showcased its large-scale underwater drone TOLOKA at the Brave1 Defense Tech Valley 2025 exhibition.
