A compact, one-meter unmanned surface vessel named Ursula, developed by Kyiv-based NoviTechNet, can perform river reconnaissance, act as a floating mine and launch FPV drones directly from the water. This was reported by developer itself on July 12.

NoviTechNet designed Ursula’s hull and modular payload bay for rapid deployment in complex riverine and littoral zones.

Fitted with stabilized optical and thermal cameras atop a folding mast, the vessel streams real-time imagery of riverbanks, channels and coastal approaches to operators several kilometers away. Its low profile makes visual and radar detection difficult, enhancing stealth during reconnaissance missions.

There are three main configurations for the drone:

  • In its reconnaissance role, Ursula carries optical and thermal cameras atop a stabilized mast, streaming real-time video of riverbanks, channels, and coastal approaches to operators up to several kilometres away. The vessel’s low profile makes it difficult to detect visually or by radar.

  • As a floating mine, Ursula carries up to 2 kg of high-explosive charge. The warhead is detonated via secure radio command when a target enters a pre-programmed proximity zone, allowing remote engagement of enemy vessels or infrastructure without exposing operators.

  • As a drone carrier, Ursula’s deck accommodates small FPV drones—either for over-the-horizon scouting or performing strikes. After aquatic launch, the drones ascend on command, drawing power from the vessel’s onboard charging and mission-upload systems. This capability permits a seamless transition from waterborne approach to aerial assault without deploying larger manned platforms.

By combining stealthy reconnaissance, remote detonation and aerial deployment capabilities in a single, portable package, it offers Ukrainian forces a versatile tool for operations in constricted waterways and contested coastal zones.

Earlier, Ukraine’s UNEX amphibious unmanned ground vehicle successfully traversed water, swamps and minefields during recent trials.

Equipped with ground-penetrating radar and multi-sensor arrays, the six-wheeled platform reached up to 10 km/h on land and 4 km/h afloat, demonstrating precise remote navigation and mine-detection capabilities for frontline route-clearance and reconnaissance missions.
