A ground-based robotic system operated by Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps has evacuated a 77-year-old woman from the Lyman direction, the unit’s press service reported, releasing footage of the operation.

According to the military, the woman had attempted to flee the dangerous area on her own, moving past shell craters and the bodies of fallen villagers.

The evacuation was carried out by soldiers from the Cerberus unmanned ground systems unit. To avoid frightening the woman, the robotic platform was covered with a blanket bearing the message: “Grandma, get on!”

The movement of the system was coordinated with the support of a reconnaissance drone, which guided the operation.

In the same area, three more civilians attempting to leave on foot were escorted by drones to an evacuation point. From there, troops from the 1st Mechanized Battalion transported them out of the combat zone in an armored vehicle and handed them over to civil-military cooperation units.

According to the 3rd Army Corps’ statement, the evacuated woman is 77 years old and had lived in her home for 53 years before it was destroyed by Russian forces.

The use of ground robotic systems in evacuation efforts has been expanding across the front line. In a separate operation, a similar platform was used to extract a wounded Ukrainian soldier who had come under heavy Russian fire, according to the Joint Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine “Lut.”

The serviceman, who was part of the “Luhansk” assault brigade, was caught in a Russian ambush and sustained serious injuries during intense shelling. Despite this, he managed to continue retreating while returning fire.

He was later evacuated with the help of a ground robotic system and troops from the 100th Brigade.

“The evacuation of the wounded was extremely challenging: enemy drones circled overhead, and any movement under fire could have been deadly. However, leaving a comrade behind was not an option,” the “Lut” Brigade stated.

Separatly, on April 7, Ukraine’s First Separate Medical Battalion conducted six successful casualty evacuation missions in a single day using unmanned ground vehicles, underscoring the increasing role of robotics in frontline medical support.
