Zelenskyy Confirms Slow but Steady Pushback of Russian Troops in Sumy

In his evening address on June 12, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported incremental progress by Ukrainian troops in the Sumy region, where clashes with Russian forces continue.
“I received a report from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi,” Zelenskyy said. “The front line, especially the Pokrovsk direction, the Kursk operation, and the Sumy border area. Our units in Sumy are gradually pushing the occupier back. Thank you! Thank you to every soldier, sergeant, and officer for this result. To every unit.”
The President also touched on upcoming international engagements, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and strengthening sanctions on Russia.

“A clear task for all our representatives – we need our partners to understand that sanctions against Russia really work,” Zelenskyy stated. “They truly work when they stay ahead of the Russian government’s ability to adapt. Sanctions on oil. Sanctions on Russian banks and the entire financial sector. Sanctions on individuals and legal entities helping Russia adjust to global pressure.”
Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine remains focused on defending its territory and rallying global support for a sustained response to Russian aggression.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian presidential aide and head of the Kremlin’s negotiation team, Vladimir Medinsky, said that Ukraine must accept Russia’s terms and abandon its aspirations for Western integration in order to end the war.
