Temporarily occupied Crimea experienced widespread power outages on July 6 after Ukrainian strikes targeted key electricity infrastructure, leaving large parts of the peninsula without electricity and disrupting communications and water supplies.

According to Russian state news agency Interfax, citing the occupation-controlled energy company Krymenergo, power outages affected consumers across all cities and districts of temporarily occupied Crimea.

Krymenergo attributed the blackout to “technological disruptions caused by external impacts” on high-voltage transmission networks and said emergency repair crews had begun restoration work. The company said it aims to restore electricity by the end of the day but did not guarantee a timeline.

The monitoring group Crimean Wind reported that a fire broke out at the 330-kV Simferopol electrical substation, located near the village of Strohanivka outside Simferopol. According to eyewitness accounts cited by the group, flames and thick smoke were visible at the site.

Local residents also reported a critical situation in the Rozdolne district, where electricity, mobile communications, and water supplies were all unavailable.

“Only shops that still have gasoline for their generators are operating, and they are accepting cash payments only. People from nearby villages are traveling to Rozdolne to withdraw cash so they can buy essential goods, but ATMs are not working and banks are closed,” residents told Crimean Wind.

The energy disruptions come as Ukraine intensifies its campaign against Russian military logistics, employing an expanding fleet of medium-range strike drones capable of hitting supply routes, fuel convoys, railway infrastructure, and military facilities up to 300 kilometres behind the front line in occupied territories.
