One in Three Kyiv Schools Damaged by Russian Strikes, City Official Says

Russian attacks have damaged 334 schools in Kyiv, meaning every third educational institution in the capital has been affected by the war, Hromadske reported on October 1.
Olena Fidanyan, head of the Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Education and Science, told Hromadske that some schools have been hit repeatedly.

UNITED24 Media previously reported that Russian attacks have damaged 4,650 educational facilities across Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, with 423 completely destroyed. The damage has forced schools and universities to rely on remote, mixed, or relocated learning depending on local security conditions.
“Every third educational institution in Kyiv has been damaged by shelling to date,” Fidanyan stated. “Every fourth institution among those damaged has been hit between two and eight times.”
She added that school and kindergarten directors now follow response procedures that are adjusted constantly as the frequency of Russian attacks changes.

“If previously our action algorithms could be designed for six months, a year, or a quarter, now they are adjusted and changed every day depending on the frequency of shelling,” Fidanyan told Hromadske.
On October 1, a Russian drone struck a school in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district while more than 100 students were in a shelter. No injuries were reported.
Emergency services, including pyrotechnic teams, were working at the site after the strike.
It was also recently reported that Ukraine plans to install 840 mobile shelters along school bus routes in six frontline regions. The project is intended to protect children traveling to school in areas exposed to continued Russian attacks.
