Over 100 Airspace Violations Push Moldova to Adopt Ukrainian Anti-Drone Tactics

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Moldova’s airspace has been violated more than 100 times, with drones and missile debris repeatedly landing on its territory.

Speaking alongside Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi in Kyiv, Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan stated that his country experienced five separate airspace violations in a single Saturday, as reported by Ukrinform on October 26.

Tofan emphasized that Moldova intends to adopt Ukrainian anti-drone tactics to secure its borders against growing aerial threats. Addressing Moldovan citizens from the Ukrainian capital, Tofan noted that Ukraine’s defense against aggression contributes directly to the security of Europe.

He highlighted that Ukraine has developed some of the most effective anti-drone capabilities in the world, relying on efficient and low-cost technological solutions to counter aerial risks.

Tofan pointed out that while Moldova maintains its peaceful, neutral status, neutrality does not mean a lack of defense, and protecting citizens remains the government’s primary duty.

The bilateral talks in Kyiv also focused on expanding economic and energy cooperation. Moldovan and Ukrainian officials discussed deepening gas and energy sector integration, as well as encouraging Ukrainian companies to expand into Moldova’s logistics and warehousing sectors.

Tofan noted that these economic partnerships will attract investment, create jobs, and support regional stability.

Previously, on September 30, a Russian Geran-4 drone equipped with a turbojet engine entered Moldovan airspace before crashing into trees and exploding near a road in the Orhei district. Investigators recovered drone fragments, including engine components and parts marked “Geran-4,” while authorities temporarily restricted airspace during the incident.
