Russia’s Troop Losses Hit 2026 Record With 46,230 in September

Russian forces suffered 46,230 personnel losses in Ukraine in September, marking their highest monthly total recorded in 2026, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on October 1.
According to the General Staff, the September figure surpassed the previous monthly highs recorded during the summer, when Russian personnel losses reached 42,860 in July and 42,020 in August.

Reported Russian personnel losses have generally increased over the course of the year. Ukraine recorded 31,710 Russian casualties in January, followed by 26,090 in February, 31,960 in March, 32,980 in April, and 33,760 in May.
The figure rose to 39,290 in June before exceeding 42,000 in both July and August and reaching the annual high of 46,230 in September, the General Staff reported.

Compared with January, Russia’s reported personnel losses increased by 14,520 in September, representing a rise of 45.8%, according to the statement.
The monthly record coincided with a new single-day high. On September 29, UK Defence Intelligence reported that Russian forces had sustained 2,090 casualties killed or wounded over the previous 24 hours—the highest reported daily total since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Citing figures from Ukraine’s General Staff for September 28, UK intelligence said the figure surpassed all previous daily totals recorded since February 2022. Three other days with more than 2,000 Russian casualties were reported in 2024, while the fourth-highest figure—1,960 personnel killed or wounded—was recorded on September 16, 2026.
The latest figures add to Russia’s overall personnel losses since the start of the full-scale invasion. According to data released by Ukraine’s General Staff on September 9, the total had already surpassed 1.5 million troops killed or wounded.
