UK Secretary of State for Defense Wes Streeting stated on October 15 that the United States should view its support for Ukraine during Russia’s full-scale invasion as a major opportunity.

Streeting highlighted that Ukraine could “significantly strengthen American power” through its expanding defense industrial sector, Sky News reported.

“Today the frontline for freedom lies in Ukraine. The people of Ukraine are fighting for a principle that lies at the heart of the best traditions of the American political system, a principle that gave birth to the United States and that we have defended together,” the British defense secretary said.

He emphasized that supporting Kyiv remains fundamental to safeguarding global stability and democratic values.

This cooperation aligns with broader British efforts to strengthen Ukraine's defense industry, which recently saw major steps taken toward expanding local arms production. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham had previously announced a technology transfer agreement that will allow Ukraine to domestically produce Storm Shadow cruise missiles.

British and French defense companies will participate in establishing local manufacturing for the air-launched precision weapons, which France operates as the SCALP-EG.

The localized production is intended to reduce Ukraine’s reliance on Western stockpiles and enable independent strikes against Russian supply chains and high-value military targets.
