Poland Warns Russia May Target Ukraine Supporters With "Accidental" Strikes

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that the most likely scenario for the coming months involves Russian hybrid drone and missile attacks against countries supporting Ukraine, including Poland, according to Onet on September 17.

Speaking in Poland’s Sejm , Tusk said recent attacks near the Polish border were a particular cause for concern. He stressed the need to provide the public with detailed information about possible developments based on currently available intelligence.
“I want to present to the public the most likely scenario for the next few months, because this scenario involves serious events and requires focus, seriousness, and the mental readiness to face difficult tests,” Tusk said.
According to the Polish prime minister, there is a risk that drones or missiles could enter the territory of one or more countries on NATO’s eastern flank and potentially cause damage, while such incidents could subsequently be presented as accidental.

“In short: there is a real risk that drones or other types of missiles could enter the territory of one or more countries on the eastern flank, even cause destruction, while the official version would be that it was an accident,” Tusk said.
Tusk emphasized that this was not the only possible scenario, noting that unpredictability has become a defining feature of contemporary politics.
He added that intelligence assessments point to the possibility of Russia carrying out hybrid drone and missile strikes against countries providing support to Ukraine.
“According to intelligence assessments, the Russian plan also includes hybrid drone and missile strikes against countries supporting Ukraine, including Poland. These possibilities have been discussed for a long time, but today this information is very consistent and, unfortunately, convincing,” Tusk said.
According to Tusk, such attacks could be made to appear “accidental” in an effort to weaken NATO countries’ willingness to invoke the Alliance’s provisions in response to aggression against one of its member states.
His remarks come amid heightened concerns over Russian drones near Poland. On September 14, Polish forces recovered a Russian-origin military drone from the Baltic Sea off the country’s northern coast.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported the discovery the same day, saying troops had located and retrieved the aircraft from the water near the beach in Rusinowo, close to Jarosławiec.
Further details emerged on September 16, when Polish military prosecutors told the Polish Press Agency that the recovered drone had been carrying a live warhead, which was neutralized at the scene. Preliminary findings identified the Russian aircraft as a Gerbera 2 drone.
