Russian forces launched an attack on Izmail, targeting critical civilian infrastructure. The Izmail District State Administration reported the strike, emphasizing that there were no casualties or damage to residential buildings. The attack was confirmed on August 6.
According to Odesa Regional Military Administration head, Oleh Kiper, a fire broke out at the site, which was extinguished by firefighters by the morning. The fire destroyed industrial equipment, and efforts to release gas from the system are ongoing.
“On the night of August 6, the enemy again attacked civilian infrastructure facilities. Fortunately, there were no injuries or destruction of residential buildings,” Odesa district military administration wrote on their official Facebook page.

“Despite active work by our air defense forces, there was damage to the gas infrastructure. A fire broke out, which was extinguished at 07:25 by our fire services. Currently, efforts are underway to release gas from the system,” he stated, according to Odesa district administration quoting Kiper.
The attack caused damage to a main gas pipeline, temporarily cutting off gas supply to 2,500 consumers. Emergency response teams are reportedly still working to mitigate the effects of the strike.
Local authorities and law enforcement agencies are at the scene, documenting the damage caused by yet another Russian attack on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.
Witnesses reported that the fire was visible even from the other side of the Danube, across from Romania.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also wrote about the strike in his official Telegram channel:
“…attack on a gas station in Novosilskyi, Odesa region. Hundreds of families were left without gas. And it was a deliberate blow to our preparation for the heating season, absolutely cynical, like every Russian blow to the energy industry,’ he wrote.
“No matter what the Kremlin says, they will sincerely strive to end the war only after feeling the proper pressure. And right now it is very important to strengthen all the levers in the arsenal of the US, Europe and the «seven», so that the ceasefire really comes immediately. Ukraine sees political will, appreciates the efforts of our partners, America and everyone who helps. And we count on the necessary solutions,” Zelenskyy concluded.
Previously, it was reported that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is unlikely to comply with US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire ultimatum, which expires on August 8, and remains committed to seizing full control of four Ukrainian regions, Reuters reports.
