Poland’s military leadership has revealed new details about the overnight Russian drone incursion on September 9–10, stating the situation was far more dangerous than initially reported.

This was reported by Rzeczpospolita on November 14.

Lieutenant General Maciej Klisz told the outlet that an investigation confirmed several Russian drones that crossed into Polish airspace were carrying explosive charges – including those believed to be “decoys” intended to overload air-defense systems.

“The claims that these were cardboard or paper objects do not quite correspond to reality,” General Klisz said.

He added that in September the threat posed by Russian drones to Poland was “absolutely real.”

According to Klisz, a total of 23 Russian drones crossed the border into Poland during the incident. Some were shot down on Polish territory, while others broke apart midair, which, he noted, may have led to confusion when assessing how many drones were actually intercepted.

Russian drone crashed onto private property in east of Poland on September 9-10, damaging a house and a car but causing no injuries—another instance of Moscow’s war against Ukraine spilling over into NATO territory.

Debris from the drone struck a residential home in the village of Wyryki in Lublin voivodeship on September 10, breaking part of the roof and hitting a parked vehicle. Police later confirmed that the fragments came from a Russian drone.

Earlier, it was reported that Poland is moving ahead with plans to build its own nationwide anti-drone defense system in response to the growing threat posed by Russian unmanned aerial vehicles.

Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk said Warsaw does not intend to rely on the European Union’s proposed joint “drone wall” project and will develop its capabilities on a national basis instead.
