China has sharply reduced shipments of Mavic drones and related components to Ukraine and Western nations, while expanding exports to Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a media briefing, as reported by Bloomberg on May 29.

“Chinese Mavic is open for Russians but is closed for Ukrainians,” Zelenskyy stated.

He added that Chinese representatives are present on drone production lines inside Russian territory.

Zelenskyy also warned that Russia is preparing to significantly expand domestic drone production. Speaking a day earlier, on May 27, he said Moscow is working to produce up to 500 drones daily, though current estimates place realistic output at 300–350 units per day.

“They have been tasked with producing 500 drones a day, but I do not believe they have reached that level,” he said.

The President added that in some cases, Russian forces stockpile drones and may in the future launch as many as 1,000 in a single day against Ukraine.

Previously, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking to journalists, outlined Ukraine’s current defense priorities, international engagements, and military strategy amid Russia’s ongoing invasion.

He emphasized the urgent need to secure $30 billion in funding to scale up domestic defense production, including rockets, drones, and other critical military assets.
