Russian military and industrial facilities faced simultaneous drone attacks that sparked significant fires and disrupted local infrastructure. The strikes targeted Penza’s Radio Plant and a railway station in Kotelnikovo, Volgograd region on the morning of July 31.

In Penza, a drone strike hit the Radio Plant, reportedly a key producer of automated military control systems. Eyewitnesses reported drones flying low over residential areas before explosions erupted at the plant, causing a fire, Russian Astra media reports.

Local authorities confirmed the attack, with Governor Melnichenko stating that no casualties were reported. “Another hostile drone attack has targeted one of our industrial plants. There is a fire on the premises, which is being handled,” he claimed.

The Radio Plant, part of the "Roseltronica" holding under the state-owned "Rostech," produces military equipment used by Russia’s Ministry of Defense and other security agencies.

In Volgograd, drones targeted the Kotelnikovo railway station, causing a fire that affected railway tracks and an electrical substation. Local Governor Andrei Bocharov reported that the fire temporarily disrupted train services and de-energized part of the railway line, according to Astra and video reports.

“Russian air defense forces repelled a massive drone attack on transport and energy facilities. The fire in dry grass in the Surovikino district is under control, and gas supply interruptions in Kotelnikovo are being resolved,” Bocharov stated.

OSINT researcher Tatarigami_UA noted numerous thermal signatures of fires on satellite imagery near the Kotelnikovo railway station, right after the drone strike.

The drone strikes in both Penza and Volgograd demonstrate a significant increase in drone attacks against Russian military-industrial and transport facilities.

Earlier, it was reported that a drone strike had ignited a fuel train at a major railway junction and disrupted rail traffic in Russia’s Rostov region.
