North Korea Debuts New Anti-Drone Tank as Succession of Kim Ju Ae Accelerates

According to North Korean state media, the drills involved simulated strikes and the occupation of enemy defensive lines, with the new armored vehicle demonstrating its ability to neutralize suicide drones and anti-tank munitions from all directions, Bloomberg wrote.
Kim noted the tank was developed over seven years with a specific focus on survival rates and enhanced night operations. The ceremony also prominently featured Kim’s daughter, Ju Ae, who South Korean intelligence believes has officially entered a succession phase after recently being appointed to a leadership role within the country’s Missile Administration.
“Kim Ju Ae is moving beyond the role of a simple observer and is now building an image as both a warrior and a commander,” Lim Eul-chul, professor at the Institute for Far Eastern Studies at Kyungnam University told Bloomberg.

While Pyongyang continues to modernize its military in defiance of international sanctions, the US has warned that these advancements are being accelerated by valuable combat experience gained by North Korean personnel currently assisting Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine.
Kim Jong Un has exploited the war in Ukraine to transform his isolated military into a modern hybrid combat power. Since late 2024, approximately 10,000 North Korean soldiers have gained firsthand combat experience alongside the Russian army, learning to counter FPV drones, fiber-optic munitions, and long-range uncrewed systems.
Currently, as these troops return to Pyongyang to serve as instructors, the regime is rapidly integrating these battlefield lessons into its domestic defense production. This influx of real-world tactical data, combined with billions of dollars in Russian payments, allows North Korea to bypass decades of technological stagnation and field advanced weaponry specifically designed for 21st-century uncrewed warfare.
