Russia Claimed a Fresh Strike on Ukraine’s M270—But It Reused Old Footage

Russia’s Ministry of Defense has once again been exposed for spreading misinformation about its military actions in Ukraine. This time, it falsely claimed to have destroyed a Ukrainian M270 MLRS system—using an old video from 2024 as supposed evidence.
As reported by RBC-Ukraine on November 19, citing Russian media, the incident unfolded on the morning of November 19. The Russian ministry published a statement asserting it had intercepted American ATACMS missiles over Voronezh and destroyed their launch sites near the village of Voloska Balakliya in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.
However, the video attached to the announcement quickly drew scrutiny. Even Russian pro-government commentators pointed out that the footage was recycled from September 2024, not from any recent operation. At that time, Russia had claimed to have hit an M270 MLRS near Rudnivka in Ukraine’s Sumy region. That video also lacked any clear evidence of a successful strike.

Now, it appears that the same footage—slightly edited—has been reused to support the latest, equally dubious claim.
“Most likely, Russian forces located the launch site but failed to strike it. So they reverted to using old footage, edited it, and tried to pass it off as evidence of a successful attack,” one Russian Telegram channel wrote.
Earlier, it was reported that the city of Voronezh had come under missile attack, allegedly by US-supplied ATACMS missiles. Next day, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down all four missiles—a claim quickly debunked by experts based on photos released by Russia itself.
