Russian Telegram channels have been circulating fake videos posing as reports from reputable Western media outlets such as Euronews, Gallup, and The Economist, Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation reported on January 20.

These videos push a single narrative: that aid to Ukraine is supposedly destroying the European economy, causing businesses to close, and prompting youth to vote for leaving the European Union.

However, the Center for Countering Disinformation states that these materials do not exist on the official pages of these publications.

They were fabricated by Russian propagandists, who mimicked the recognizable visual style of trusted media to give the fake videos an air of credibility.

The goal of these videos is to undermine support for Ukraine among European audiences, sow distrust in the EU and Western institutions, and shift the blame for economic problems caused by Russia’s aggression onto Ukraine’s aid efforts, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation.

The Center for Countering Disinformation also reported on a wave of similar fake videos aimed at discrediting Ukrainian refugees.

Earlier, a continuing wave of AI-generated fake videos impersonating Ukrainian soldiers was circulating on social media, amplifying claims of shortages in food, equipment and other support.
