In the early hours of November 29, Russian forces deployed a combination of ballistic and cruise missiles alongside hundreds of attack drones in a coordinated strike across Ukraine.
The attack hit residential neighborhoods and energy infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and at least five other regions, including Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv.

Ukrainian emergency services confirmed structural damage in at least seven districts of the capital. Fires broke out in high-rise apartment buildings, and some structures partially collapsed. In Brovary, east of Kyiv, a residential building lost its upper floors in a direct hit.
According to the Ministry of Energy, over 500,000 customers in Kyiv and more than 100,000 in Kyiv region lost electricity. Fastiv and several surrounding districts were also fully cut off from power supply. The State Emergency Service will continue recovery operations throughout the day.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that approximately 36 missiles and nearly 600 drones had been launched against Ukraine, focusing on “energy facilities and civilian targets.”
In a public statement, he noted that emergency services were active at multiple impact sites and expressed condolences for the lives lost: “There are dozens of wounded and three confirmed fatalities. My condolences go to their families and loved ones.”

Zelenskyy emphasized the urgency of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and called on international partners to take decisive action. “We must work every day to ensure a sufficient supply of air defense missiles and everything needed for our protection,” he said.
The president also urged the European Union to move forward on the decision to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction: “If Moscow continues to use missiles and drones, then it’s time for Europe to act.”

In Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi and Solomianskyi districts, falling debris triggered fires and damaged multiple residential buildings. In the Dniprovskyi and Darniytskyi districts, strikes caused structural collapses and fires reaching up to the seventh floor of apartment blocks. Obolonskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts also sustained damage from missile debris and drone fragments.
In the Kyiv suburbs, a missile strike in Brovary destroyed the top floors of a nine-story building, injuring two residents and forcing the evacuation of over 50 people. Additional damage was reported in garage cooperatives and private residences.

In Chernihiv, drone strikes caused fires at energy facilities and warehouses. Civilian homes and vehicles were also hit, with injuries reported in multiple villages including Semenivka and Koriukivka. A 48-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman were among the injured.
The Ministry of Energy confirmed that the overnight attack disabled hundreds of thousands of electricity consumers across several regions. Restoration efforts began immediately in areas deemed safe. Power rationing schedules were reintroduced for both residential and industrial sectors across the country.

The coordinated strike represents one of the most extensive attacks on Ukraine’s power grid this season and comes as temperatures continue to fall. Ukrainian authorities have warned of renewed efforts by Russia to undermine critical infrastructure during winter months.
Earlier, on November 27, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported that over 16,200 civilians have been killed as a result of Russian shelling, an increase of more than 2,600 compared to the same date last year. Civilian injuries also rose sharply, reaching over 38,000.
