A shock wave from a Russian ballistic missile strike on Dnipro on June 24, 2025, damaged a passenger train, the State Emergency Service reported, refuting early claims of a direct hit.

“During the attack on Dnipro, the blast wave, preliminarily, struck the train,” the DSNS press service said, clarifying that there was no direct impact on the railcar.

Overall, after a Russian missile strike on Dnipropetrovs’k region, 20 people were killed: 18 in Dnipro and 2 in the city of Samar, reported the head of the regional military administration, Serhiy Lysak, on June 25.

Almost 300 more people were injured in the Russian attack. June 25 was declared a day of mourning throughout the region.

Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed that train No. 52 had been damaged as a result of the strike. “Emergency responders and ambulance crews arrived on site promptly. Passengers were swiftly moved to shelters, as the air raid warning in the region continues. Ukrzaliznytsia is preparing a replacement rolling stock in Dnipro to transfer passengers and deliver them to Zaporizhzhia,” the rail operator added.

Local authorities urged residents to heed air raid warnings. “Never ignore an air raid alert,” Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Dnipropetrovsk region council, wrote on his Telegram channel.

Earlier, a late-night Russian drone strike in Ukraine’s Sumy region killed an eight-year-old boy and two adults when drones struck Vermivka and Verkhnosyrovatka just after midnight.
