Russian Drone Barrage Wounds Dozen, Including Children, in Sumy, Ignite Fires in Odesa

Russian forces carried out a massive drone strike on the city of Okhtyrka in Ukraine’s Sumy region, injuring at least 12 people, including two children, according to the Sumy regional police on August 20.
The attack left widespread damage across residential neighborhoods. A multi-story apartment building, 13 private homes, a utility structure, and a garage were hit.

Emergency crews, including investigators and bomb disposal units, immediately arrived at the scene to collect evidence, document the aftermath, and assist victims.
“Russian forces once again demonstrated their cynical disregard for the lives and safety of civilians by deliberately targeting residential areas,” police said in a statement.

Following the strikes, several fires broke out in Okhtyrka’s residential sector, which were later contained by emergency services.
On the same night, Russian drones also struck Izmail in the Odesa region, setting off a massive blaze. According to Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper, infrastructure facilities and industrial buildings were damaged.

“In Izmail, infrastructure and production sites were hit, sparking fires that our firefighters quickly contained,” Kiper confirmed. One man was reported injured and is receiving medical care.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said the drone strikes caused a major fire at an energy infrastructure site. “Fifty-four firefighters and 16 units of equipment, along with a firefighting train from Ukrzaliznytsia, were involved in extinguishing the blaze,” officials reported.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said that an overnight Russian attack struck energy facilities in the central Poltava region, sparking large fires and damaging gas infrastructure.
